A little jewel box in ribbon form.

This spectacular one inch ribbon from D. Stevens Fine Ribbons begins with a rich metallic gold ground, then adds rows of brilliant AB jewels arranged in a herringbone pattern. As the ribbon catches the light, the stones reveal shifting flashes of ruby, emerald, sapphire, violet, amber and gold.

From a distance, it reads as a beautifully embellished gold ribbon. Up close, all of those tiny unexpected colors begin to appear.

At only one inch wide, it offers a concentrated line of color and sparkle, making it especially useful when a wider embellished ribbon would simply be too much.

Why We Chose It

Gold ribbon is a classic. The jewel tones are what make this one so much more interesting.

Place it beside burgundy and the ruby tones come forward. Forest green finds the emerald. Navy brings out the sapphire, while plum draws attention to the violet.

That makes it particularly beautiful for the kind of decorating we love: layered, collected, colorful and never too perfectly matched.

It reminds us of opening a box of old Christmas ornaments and finding different colors, finishes and bits of sparkle gathered together. Nothing is quite identical, but somehow it all belongs.

How We’d Style It

For Christmas, we would lean into those jewel tones. Pair it with burgundy, forest green, plum, navy, ruby red or chocolate velvet, then layer in tartan, evergreen, magnolia, antique brass, dried fruit and collected ornaments.

It is especially beautiful used through the center of a larger bow. Layer it over velvet, plaid, dupion or a patterned ribbon to introduce a narrow line of brilliance without overwhelming the ribbon beneath it.

On a Christmas tree or garland, we would use it sparingly, tucking shorter lengths among the branches so the jeweled surface catches candlelight and Christmas lights here and there.

For autumn, draw out the amber, green, burgundy and violet tones with dried hydrangea, figs, pears, magnolia, moss, rust and darker foliage.

For New Year's, dinner parties and celebrations, pair it with champagne tones, jewel colored glass, brass candlesticks and dark linens. It takes on an entirely different personality.

And throughout the year, it is one of those ribbons we would reach for whenever a piece needs one small, marvelous detail.
