A sumptuous 4 inch black velvet ribbon embroidered with trailing holly greenery and red berries, then backed with a beautiful shimmering red plaid. The wired edge is wrapped in the same plaid, allowing little glimpses of pattern to appear even when the ribbon is viewed from the velvet side.

It feels like two beautiful ribbons in one.

The embroidery has the richness of an old decorative textile, while the plaid reverse gives it a wonderfully relaxed Country House quality. Shape it into a generous bow and every loop reveals something different.

Why We Chose It

We loved the mix of botanical embroidery, velvet and plaid.

There is something very old fashioned about berries and greenery worked onto dark velvet, but the tartan reverse keeps it from feeling formal. It reminds us of the way patterns are mixed in a collected home. A floral beside a plaid. Velvet against old wood. Garden greens brought indoors for winter.
It is unmistakably seasonal, but it does not shout Christmas. That makes it especially beautiful for decorating from late autumn through the holidays and well into winter.

How We'd Style It

For a Country House Christmas, we would keep the surroundings natural. Cedar, pine, magnolia, holly and branches would allow the embroidery to feel like part of the greenery itself. Add burgundy velvet, antique brass, fruit, tartan and collected ornaments.

It would make an exceptional wreath bow. At four inches wide, you do not need many competing ribbons. Let the loops turn naturally so the embroidered black velvet and muted plaid are both visible.

For a Christmas tree, we would use it in generous individual bows or soft folds tucked among the branches. Pick up the colors already hiding in the ribbon with burgundy, moss, old gold, chocolate brown and deep blue ornaments.

We also love this for late autumn and winter garden decorating. The berries and foliage feel appropriate before Christmas arrives and long after the ornaments come down.
